Batavia is where Western New York began. The rich area that
now comprises this part of the state, including Rochester and Buffalo, grew
from the early establishment at Batavia. Over two hundred years after its
founding, Batavia is a vibrant and wonderful place to live.
Part of what makes Batavia so great is all of the fun things
to do. For instance, it might surprise to find out that Batavia features an
indoor water park. Palm
Island Indoor Water Park is a favorite spot among locals, with thrilling
water slides, arcade, good eats and all at a great price. Or if you are just
looking for a good reason to get out of the house and satisfy your sweet tooth,
visit Oliver's Candies, a Batavia
staple.
Like to try your hand at games of chance? Batavia Downs has got you
covered. It's a cool place to hang out, get some food and play fun
entertainment games. You can even catch harness racing from July to December.
If you enjoy the outdoors, Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge
is just a half-hour drive from Batavia. Once there, you can explore the trails
and variety of landscape, as the refuge features emergent marshes, forested
wetlands, and grasslands. Be sure and bring your binoculars. Bald Eagles are
known to nest in the refuge.
When you are in the mood for history, check out the Holland Land Office Museum in
downtown Batavia, which has thousands of artifacts from Western New York
history.
These days Batavia still thrives as a small yet bustling
community. It's an enriching place to live, made special by the beautiful
landscape, fun things to do, great schools and lots of great community events
all year round.
